Method for determination of COD in wastewater with EZ7050 and EZ7051 online analyzers
Determination of COD concentration in water is based on titration of the remaining sodium oxalate with potassium permanganate. During the oxidation phase, COD reacts with potassium permanganate. The amount of titrated permanganate is used to calculate the chemical oxygen demand of the sample.
Analysis steps
The sample is mixed with permanganate solution (KMnO4), sulfuric acid solution (H2SO4) and silver nitrate solution (AgNO3). The solution is heated to 100 °C for 30 minutes to oxidize organic matter with permanganate. After oxidation, an excess of oxalate solution (Na2C2O4) is added. Titration with permanganate is performed. The amount of titrated permanganate is used to calculate the COD concentration in the wastewater sample.
