ATP (assessment of microbiological contamination)

ATP monitoring and control is a rapid test method used in various industries to quickly assess the cleanliness of surfaces or liquid samples, for example, after a CIP cleaning of equipment or in oil and gas pipelines (for the purpose of identifying and preventing biocorrosion). Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the main component of cells that is responsible for the transfer of energy. Since adenosine triphosphate is present in all microorganisms, it is an excellent indicator of total microbiological contamination in fluids or sediments. The system of luminometer and ATP tests uses bioluminescence to quickly determine residual ATP as an indicator of the cleanliness and hygiene of surfaces or liquid samples. ATP tests are available for a variety of applications including drinking water, oil and gas, food and beverage (CIP), nitrification, organics, wastewater, and other industrial applications. The presence of ATP indicates improper or insufficient cleaning / sterilization and the presence of contaminants including food residue, allergens or bacteria.
