Description of the method: The SPADNS method for the determination of fluoride involves the reaction of fluoride with a red solution of zirconium dye. Fluoride combines with a portion of the zirconium to form a colorless complex, thus discoloring the red color in an amount proportional to the concentration of fluoride. Distillation is required for seawater and wastewater samples. The measurement wavelength is 580 nm for spectrophotometers or 610 nm for colorimeters.
