Application: determination of the potential of drinking water, forming trihalomethanes and other disinfection by-products, under the influence of direct chlorination. For water purification processes, water sources or for predicting estimates of THM concentrations in distribution systems. For trihalomethane distribution system modeling (SDS-THM) studies.
Method description [Hach 10224]: Drinking water contains organic matter that reacts with chlorine to form chlorinated organic matter. Some of these chlorinated organics are trihalomethanes or other regulated disinfection by-products. The ability of different raw or treated waters to form disinfection by-products is determined by the addition of chlorine and control of the dosing rate, pH, temperature and contact time. THMs generated under these user-defined conditions are determined by the THM Plus method.
