Description

The UVAS plus sc sensor covers a wide range of applications, including: protection of structures from industrial effluents, control of activated sludge processes, control of methanol supply to the BNR based on organic matter content, monitoring of end effluents and the efficiency of UV disinfection processes.
The transmitter can be connected to all SC controllers, providing versatile output options including 4-20mA output, Modbus RS485, Profibus or HART. The entire range of digital controllers is presentedhere.

The UVAS plus sc technology sensor measures the spectral absorption coefficient of a liquid at a wavelength of 254 nm. SAC 254 is a measure of the organic content of a liquid. The sensor is immersed in liquid without sampling or reagents and provides instant results. Care and maintenance are very easy thanks to the automatic cleaning with the wiping system.

Measuring principle

Organic matter dissolved in water, as a rule, absorbs ultraviolet light. For this reason, the measurement of UV absorption is an independent, cumulative parameter for the concentration of water-soluble organic matter. This method of determining water quality using laboratory photometers without the use of chemical compounds using filtered samples has long been used in drinking water.

DIN 38402 C2 provides for UV absorption measurements using light sources with a wavelength of 254 nm and refers to the value measured on a filtered sample as the spectral absorption coefficient at 254 nm (shortly SAC254), which should be expressed in absorbance per meter. Thus, a direct comparability of the indicators measured in cuvettes with different intensities is achieved and the units of measurement are 1 / m or m 1. The UVAS immersion sensor contains a multibeam absorption photometer with efficient turbidity compensation. The corresponding controller controls the measurement process using a flash lamp photometer, mechanically cleans the measuring window with a cleaner, and also displays the measured SAC254 values in 1 / m. For other general parameters such as COD or TOC, there is a correlation for SAC254 of the same quality.
For media containing particulate matter, the SAC measurement with UVAS should always be supplemented with a particulate matter or turbidity measurement (SOLITAX sc, ULTRATURB sc).

SAK 254 is an independent indicator for dissolved organic water content and assesses like all other parameters. Despite the great similarity, common parameters can only be converted from one to another within certain limits. If there is a correlation between SAC 254 and another common parameter, then the converted values from UVAS sensors can be displayed in mg / L TOCuv (TOC), CSBuv (COD), etc. To determine the correlation, it is necessary to plot the SAC measurement curve over several days. Only a regular daily curve with clearly defined short and long loading times, for example with urban wastewater, provides a good basis for a satisfactory conversion.
