Applications: For determination of residual chlorine and chloramines in water, waste water, estuarine and seawater. For the determination of residual amounts of bromine (including hypobromite, hydrobromic acid and bromamines) in water and wastewater.
Description of the method [8167 - Chlorine, general; 8021 - Chlorine, free]: Chlorine can be present in water as free chlorine and combined chlorine. Both forms can exist in the same water and together are defined as total chlorine. Free chlorine is present as hypochlorous acid and / or hypochlorite ion. Combined chlorine exists in the form of monochloramine, dichloramine, nitrogen trichloride and other chlorine derivatives. The combined chlorine oxidizes the iodide in the reagent to iodine. Iodine and free chlorine react with DPD (N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) to form a pink color that is proportional to the concentration of total chlorine. To determine the concentration of combined chlorine, run the free chlorine test and the total chlorine test. Subtract the free chlorine test results from the total chlorine test to obtain the concentration of combined chlorine. The measurement wavelength is 530 nm for spectrophotometers or 520 nm for colorimeters.
Method description [8031 - Iodine]: Iodine reacts with DPD (N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) to form a pink color, the intensity of which is proportional to the total iodine concentration. Measurement wavelength is 530 nm.
Method Description [8016 - Bromine Low Range]: Residual bromine reacts with DPD (N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) to form a pink color that is proportional to the total bromine concentration. To increase the assay range, more indicator is added in proportion to the sample volume in the high range procedure.
Fast
Accuvac® ampoules deliver fast results. Immerse the tip of the ampoule into the sample and press gently so that its tip breaks off, the ampoule will be filled with the sample under the action of vacuum and the contents will be mixed. The color of the content is assessed visually or photometrically.
Easy
It is not necessary to measure the amount of sample or reagent. The evacuated ampoules draw the correct sample volume, you get reliable results with minimal effort.
