Description
DAPI is a blue fluorescent dye that fluoresces brightly when selectively bound to the minor groove of double-stranded DNA, where its fluorescence is about 20 times higher than unbound. Its selectivity for DNA and high cell permeability allow efficient staining of nuclei with a low cytoplasmic background. DAPI is a classic nuclear contrast agent for immunofluorescence microscopy and is an important component of screening methods that require cell-based DNA quantification.
