Description
Powder reagent, potassium iodide, Powder Pillows for the determination of chromates and chlorine by titration (2059996) from Hach. Designed for use with test kits and Hach handheld digital titrator for determination of chlorine by titration.
Scope and application: For concentrated liquid bleach (sodium hypochlorite, soda bleach) used as a disinfectant in drinking water or wastewater treatment.
Summary of method: In acidic conditions, hypochlorite reacts with iodide to form an equivalent quantity of triiodide (I3–). The released I3– is titrated with sodium thiosulfate to a colorless end point. The quantity of sodium thiosulfate required is directly related to the hypochlorite concentration in the sample.
