Summary of method: In acidic conditions, hypochlorite reacts with iodide to form an equivalent quantity of triiodide (I3–). The released I3– is titrated with sodium thiosulfate to a colorless end point. The quantity of sodium thiosulfate required is directly related to the hypochlorite concentration in the sample.
