Description

Packaged Powder Pillows reagents (1407099) for the determination of Free Chlorine from Hach. The reagents are hermetically sealed in foil sachets, which provides them with a long shelf life. The reagent is simply poured into the measuring cuvette along with the sample. The analysis is carried out visually, for example using a color disc or with a HACH LANGE photometer.

Application: For determinations of higher levels of free chlorine (hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion) in drinking water, oil and gas, cooling water and industrial process waters.

Summary of method: The range of analysis using the DPD method for free chlorine can be extended by adding more indicator in proportion to sample volume. Thus, a larger fill powder pillow of DPD Free Chlorine Reagent is added to a 5-mL sample portion. Chlorine in the sample as hypochlorous acid or hypochlorite ion (free chlorine or free available chlorine) immediately reacts with DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) indicator to form a pink color, the intensity of which is proportional to the chlorine concentration. The measurement wavelength is 530 nm for spectrophotometers or 520 nm for colorimeters.
