Description
Packaged Powder Pillows reagents (2653299) for the determination of Nitrogen, Ammonia (Salicylate Method) from Hach. Used for water analysis and wastewater monitoring. The reagents are hermetically sealed in foil sachets, which provides them with a long shelf life. The reagent is simply poured into the measuring cuvette along with the sample. The analysis is carried out visually, for example using a color wheel or with a HACH LANGE photometer.

Summary of method:Ammonia compounds combine with chlorine to form monochloramine. Monochloramine reacts with salicylate to form 5-aminosalicylate. The 5‑aminosalicylate is oxidized in the presence of a sodium nitroprusside catalyst to form a blue-colored compound. The blue color is masked by the yellow color from the excess reagent to give a final green-colored solution. The measurement wavelength is 655 nm for spectrophotometers or 610 nm for colorimeters.
