Rugged, waterproof (IP67) construction withstands any conditions you face in the field (drops, extreme temperatures, rain and mud) while providing years of reliable and accurate measurements. Simple, intuitive controls reduce potential errors. The large, backlit display makes it easy to read the test results.
Chlorine can be present in water as free chlorine and combined chlorine. Both forms can be in the same solution and together can be defined as total chlorine. Free chlorine is in solution in the form of hypochlorous acid or hypochlorite ion. Combined chlorine is a combination of chlorine-containing compounds including monochloramine, dichloramine, nitrogen trichloride and other chlorine derivatives. Combined chlorine oxidizes iodide (I–) to iodine (I2). Iodine and free chlorine react with DPD (N, N-diethylphenylenediamine) to form a red solution. The intensity of the color is proportional to the concentration of chlorine. To determine the concentration of combined chlorine, perform the free chlorine test and the total chlorine test. Subtract the free chlorine test results from the total test to obtain the concentration of combined chlorine. To extend the DPD analysis range, add more indicator proportional to the sample volume.
