Cyanuric acid (CYA) is known as a chlorine stabilizer or pool conditioner. Many solid chlorinating products such as granules or tablets contain CYA.
Test kit Hach model CY-3 (185102) is designed to control the content of cyanuric acid in the range of 20 - 100 mg/L in the water of outdoor pools.

Cyanuric acid (C3H3N3O3) is known as a chlorine stabilizer in swimming pools exposed to sunlight. It helps to reduce the loss of chlorine by protecting the free chlorine in the pool from ultraviolet rays. The sun's rays reduce the amount of chlorine needed to maintain the proper level of disinfection.
What can happen if the cyanuric acid level is high in the pool?
- The first question will be the effectiveness of chlorine as a disinfectant. CYA in high concentration binds to chlorine, slowing down its action to kill bacteria and microorganisms and prevent algae from appearing.
- Excessive amounts of cyanuric acid increase the turbidity of the pool water. In this case, it is recommended to replace part of the pool water with fresh water, since there is no means to reduce the cyanuric acid content in the pool water.
Monitor the concentration of cyanuric acid in the pool water with the Hach CY-3 Test Kit (185102) in the range of 20 - 100 mg/L. The kit measures the level of turbidity that develops in proportion to the concentration of CYA after the addition of the reagent into the water sample. The amount of reagent is sufficient for 100 tests.
Please read the instructions carefully to get accurate results. The mixing container, graduated cylinder and dipstick must be thoroughly cleaned after each use. If this is not done, a white film forms on the glass walls, which can lead to errors in further analyzes of water samples.
