High quality pH electrode based on combined electrode technology. The perforated diaphragm, in combination with the polymerized solid electrolyte, makes this electrode particularly insensitive to contamination and minimizes maintenance. Especially suitable for contaminated materials.

The sensor can work with all Hach SC series controllers. Before using the sensor, familiarize yourself with how your controller works and navigate through the menus to launch the appropriate functions.

The electrode is factory calibrated and very stable. Typically, calibration is only necessary after a few weeks or after changing the sensor electrode. To maintain the accuracy and reproducibility of measurements, the manufacturer recommends replacing the electrode after about one year from the start of use.

Whether it is domestic or industrial waste water, drinking water or industrial process water - the high-quality, application-specific design guarantees high reliability of pH sensors. The digital technology also allows these sensors to be combined with other SC sensors if required.

Measuring principle

pH is the negative logarithm of the activity of hydrogen ions, as well as an indicator of the acidic or alkaline content of the solution: pH = –log10 [aH +]

The pH value is usually measured with a glass electrode and a reference electrode. In this case, the glass electrode acts as a converter, converting chemical energy (hydrogen ion activity) into electrical energy (measured in millivolts). The reaction is symmetrical, and the electrical circuit is closed by the flow of ions from the reference solution to the test solution.

Together with the reference solution, the electrode generates a voltage. The voltage value depends on the type of reference electrode, the internal construction of the glass electrode, the pH of the solution, and also the temperature.

For every change in pH (or decimal change in ion concentration), the EMF generated by a pair of electrodes changes by 59.16 mV at 25 ° C. This value is called the electrode gradient.

A pair of pH electrodes is calibrated using solutions with a known and constant concentration of hydrogen ions - buffer solutions. Buffers are used to calibrate both the electrode isopotential and the gradient.
