The Hach CL17sc Ultra Low Chlorine Detection Range is best suited for clean water that measures either low levels of chlorine or the absence of chlorine, such as dechlorinated water. Applications may also include any process involving nanofiltration or reverse osmosis membranes. Industries range from energy, semiconductor and pharmaceuticals to beverages, petrochemicals and drinking water.

Whether drinking water, process water or waste water, the CL17sc provides the direct chlorine measurements you need to optimize your water treatment process. The colorimetric analyzer eliminates the need for ORP measurement or amperometric analysis methods, as reading accuracy is not affected by changes in sample pH, temperature, or Cl2 concentration.

Which model to choose?

There are two installation kits to choose from when purchasing, both of which are designed to control the sample feed pressure to the analyzer. So, which one to choose?

• Standpipe installation kit does the job perfectly in any conditions. The pipe has no moving parts, which makes it very reliable. This type of installation requires two feet (about 60 cm) of space above the top of the analyzer, keep this in mind when thinking about the installation location.
• Pressure regulator installation kit: Works well in all conditions, except when the sample pressure is consistently at the lower limit of the analyzer specification. This installation kit is compact, so it is the best choice if there is not enough space above the analyzer to mount it on a pipe.

How the Hach CL17 sc ULR Analyzer Works

The CL17sc ultra-low range colorimetric chlorine analyzer is equipped with three working components:

• Inline peristaltic pump for precise volume control of incoming samples and reagents
• Colorimeter
• Indicator and buffer solutions

Zero reference point is set at the beginning of the cycle by measuring blank absorbance (this compensates for the color intensity and turbidity of the sample prior to chlorine measurement.) The indicator and buffer solutions are then added to the sample. The solution is stirred with a magnetic stirrer, as a result, the sample changes color. The colorimeter then measures the light that has passed through the sample. The measured intensity is compared with a reference standard. Finally, the sample cell is flushed with new sample. The cycle can be repeated every 2.5 minutes.
