Instructions for determining the total hardness test with the 5-B Hach Lange test set
- Fill the measuring tube to the top with the sample.
- Pour the sample into a square mixing container.
- Add 1 scoop of UniVer Hardness Reagent.
- Add Hardness 3 Titration Solution dropwise to the mixing vessel, stirring the solution by rotating the vessel. When the color of the sample changes from pink to blue, record the number of drops added. Note: If a blue color appears after 1 drop is added, then the total hardness of the sample is < 1 grain per gallon (17.1 mg/L) CaCO3.
- Number of drops = Total hardness of the sample in grains per halon as CaCO3.
