FerroZine Iron Reagent determines soluble ferric (Fe³⁺) and ferrous (Fe²⁺) Iron. Digestion is needed for strongly chelated Iron complexes (such as those with EDTA) and Total Iron. For trace level Iron analysis.

The reagents are hermetically sealed in foil sachets, which provides them with a long shelf life. The reagent is simply poured into the measuring cuvette along with the sample. The analysis is carried out visually, for example using a color disc or with a HACH LANGE photometer.

Summary of method: The FerroZine® Iron Reagent forms a purple-colored complex with trace amounts of iron in samples that are buffered to a pH of 3.5. This method is applicable for determining trace levels of iron in chemical reagents and glycols. With digestion, this method can be used to analyze samples that contain magnetite (black iron oxide) or ferrites. The measurement wavelength is 562 nm for spectrophotometers or 560 nm for colorimeters.
