Turbidimetry

Turbidimetry is a method for determining turbidity in a solution based on measuring the effect of turbidity upon the transmission and scattering of light. The turbidity of the liquid is caused by the presence of finely divided suspended particles. If a light beam passes through a turbid sample, its intensity decreases due to scattering, and the amount of scattered light depends on the concentration and size distribution of particles. Turbidimetry measures the intensity of light that has passed through a sample. The intensity of the reflected light provides information on the degree of turbidity.
