Description

Description

Hach Application Packs contain all elements except reagents so that each user can set up and run their tests quickly and easily. Each kit is specially designed for unique parameters to provide accurate and reproducible measurements.

You can view the reagents and standards required for the analysis in the Accessories tab.

The FOS/TAC (biogas) kit is suitable for use with the Titralab AT1000 series of automatic titrators: models AT1102, AT1112, AT1122 and AT1222.

The FOS/TAC ratio is an indicator for evaluating fermentation processes. The TAC value is an estimate of the buffer capacity of the sample, and the FOS value corresponds to the content of volatile fatty acids. It is calculated empirically using the Nordmann method.

Description of the Nordmann method for determining FOS / TAC

A 5 ml fermentation substrate sample is titrated with 0.1 N sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to pH 5.0 to calculate the TAC value expressed in mg/L calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The FOS value is then obtained after a second titration step between pH 5.0 and pH 4.4. Expressed in mg/L acetic acid (CH3COOH).

The Nordmann method for the determination of volatile organic compounds is based on experiments with a 20 ml sample and a 0.1 N H2SO4 solution. Formula adapted for 5 ml sample. It is important to titrate as close to these conditions as possible.
