Laboratory scales are used to accurately determine the mass or weight of an object or substance within a specific range and with a specific accuracy. They are commonly used to measure the weight of small amounts of substances in grams, milligrams, or micrograms. Depending on the application, you must select the type of laboratory balance that best suits your needs. These include top-loading electronic balances, analytical balances, moisture analyzers and mechanical scales. An analytical balance has more accurate readability, is much more sensitive to changes, and can detect less weight changes than a top-loading balance. Moisture analyzers measure the amount of liquid in a substance and are often used in food testing. They weigh the product and then use the heating function to evaporate the moisture and re-weigh it to get the data to calculate the moisture content.
